- DAY1: Chiang Mai – Doi Inthanon National Park – Karen Village (-/L/D)
You will begin the tour by travelling approximately 2-hours from Chiang Mai to the Doi Inthanon National Park. This park is the traditional home of the Karen people. Here you can experience Thailand’s highest mountain, Doi Inthanon, which is 2,565m tall.
Next you will visit the picturesque Wachiratarn Waterfall where you can have a break and freshen up for the afternoon. It is then a short drive to the village Ban Pha Mon where you will meet your local tour guide and have an authentic Karen meal for lunch.
In the afternoon the local guide will take you on a tour to learn about and observe the life of the Karen farmer. You will see rice pounding, bamboo weaving and also the weaving of traditional Karen clothes. You will then meet your homestay hosts who you will have dinner with. If you like, you can assist your hosts in preparing the meal and learn about Karen cooking.
After dinner enjoy listening to traditional Karen music played on the “Te-Hna”.
Overnight: Simple and comfortable homestay, bedding and mosquito net are provided.
- DAY2: Karen Village- Doi Inthanon Summit- Chiang Mai (B/L/-)
Breakfast will be served at your homestay.
Then you will meet your local guide and begin a rice paddy’s walking tour. The tour will teach you about Karen farmer ritual ceremony. This ceremony is used to ask the spirits for good crops for the village. Continue your walk and experience the beauty of the rice-terraces and learn more about their uses such as water irrigation and conservation.
Lunch will be provided at the community centre.
After lunch say goodbye to your local guide. We will then depart to visit the summit of Inthanon Mountain and the Royal Pagodas. Then we will return to Chiang Mai. You will be dropped off at your hotel.
