At SiamRiseTravel, responsible tourism is not only our business. It is our family’s way of life. Our recent journey to Sam Roi Yot Wetland, near Hua Hin, allowed us to explore a new low-carbon travel route while sharing meaningful moments together as a family. This tripblended work, learning, nature, and family time, reminding us that the best journeys are the ones that create both impact and connection.
This trip was officially invited by the Biodiversity-based Economy Development Office (Public Organization) or BEDO, and SiamRise Travel joined as a member of the Thai Responsible Tourism Association (TRTA). The journey aimed to explore biodiversity-based tourism experiences that support ecosystem conservation, community empowerment, and sustainable local economies.
Pole Boat at Sunset: A Low-Carbon Journey into Stillness
The highlight of our journey was a traditional pole boat trip through the wetland at sunset. Without engines or fuel, the boat glides silentlythrough calm waterways, preserving the fragile ecosystem and allowing travelers to fully immerse in nature.
This low-carbon, community-led experience offers something increasingly rare silence, peace, and mental healing. Surrounded by golden light, birdsong, and gentlewater movements, we felt deeply present a perfect example of slow travel and responsible tourism. Operated entirely by local communities, this activity also generates direct income for villagers, helping them protect their wetland and sustain their livelihoods.
Bird Watching for Beginners: Learning from Nature
Sam Roi Yot is home to rich birdlife, making it ideal for beginner-friendly birdwatching. Guided by Dek Raks Thung Conservation Youth Group (Community Enterprise), our children learned how to use binoculars, observe quietly, and identify bird species. This experience combines environmental learning for travelers with biodiversity monitoring for local communities, supporting conservation while inspiring young minds to respect nature.
A Perfect Nature Escape from Hua Hin
Only a short drive from Hua Hin, Sam Roi Yot offers the perfect nature-based extension for travelers seeking more than beaches. This journey can be beautifully combined with:
- Wildlife observation at Kuiburi National Park, the internationally recognised as one of Thailand’s Green Destinations Top 100 (2025). A global award presented by the Green Destinations Foundation and ITB Berlin for outstanding sustainable tourism practices
- Mangrove ecosystem learning at Sirinart Rajini Mangrove Center, understanding the vital role of mangroves in climate resilience and marine life
Together, these experiences form a powerful biodiversity-based tour, ideal for nature lovers, families, students, and responsible travelers.
Why We Travel as a Family
We believe children learn best through real experiences.
- By traveling as a family, our kids develop empathy, patience, environmental awareness, and global understanding.
- For us, responsible tourism is not just a concept. It is how we raise our children and design our journeys.
