During their visit to Ban Don Ma Kluea, a Tai Dam (Thai Song Dam) village in Suphan Buri, students immersed themselves in a living culture shaped by generations of traditions, craftsmanship, and community values.
Through meaningful interactions with local residents, students gained a deeper understanding of how cultural heritage is preserved not in museums, but through everyday life, shared experiences, and community pride. This was more than a cultural exchange. It was an opportunity to learn directly from a community committed to protecting its identity for future generations.
Preserving More Than a Building
As part of the program, students worked alongside community members to help restore the village's cultural center.
At first glance, the project appeared to focus on improving a physical structure. In reality, it was about safeguarding something much more important. The cultural center serves as the heart of the Tai Dam community. It is where traditional ceremonies take place, annual festivals are celebrated, and elders pass cultural knowledge to younger generations.
By supporting the restoration of this space, students helped strengthen a place where heritage continues to be practiced, shared, and kept alive. Because preserving culture is not only about protecting artifacts. It is about protecting the spaces where traditions continue to thrive.
