Unseen communities in Bangkok

Since Bangkok was established in 1782. It’s been more than 200 years. There are many communities in Bangkok. Some of them still exist. In this blog, I am going to show you some of the ancient communities in Bangkok and community which is just established.


#Ban Bat community

Ban Bat community or monk bowl village is more than 100 years. It is a community which produces monk bowl for monks. Their wisdom was received from ancestors from generation to generation for producing the bowl. There are 7 methods to complete one bowl and each house only produces one process. And this is only one community left that still operate.

#Bang Lam Phu community

Bang lam phu community is well-known as a treading market also the exquisite gold ornament and nielloware. In the old day, Bang lam phu is a small community that had nothing until it was developed to be a local market.

Nowadays, it is covered with entertainment at night, pubs and bars, cheap hotels and restaurants. These movements are the factor to improve the better night.

How to get there: the closest spot by public transport is Phra Arthit Pier (N13) by Chao Phraya Express Boat


#Charoen Chai community

Charoen chai community is one of the oldest communities in Bangkok with over a hundred years of history. The occupation of every house in this community is making josh paper which is used in Chinese festivals such as Chinese New Year and their belief such as buying josh paper and burn it to ancestors who already passed away.



Ban Kao Lao Rueng or old house tells history. It is 2 storey house. In the past, this house used to be a house of Chinese opera or Chinese performance and now it’s turned to be a museum to preserve the history of this area. This area is going to be demolished because the owner wants this area back and turn it to be a subway station. If you have available time, you should visit once before it’s gone. #Suan Luang 1 community

Suan Luang community is a Muslim community. It is located in Charoen Krung district near a famous tourist attraction, Asiatique the riverfront.

The villagers in this community, they gather together and develop their hometown to be the first Halal market in Bangkok. This community opens everyday but especially on the first weekend of every month.

The owner of this restaurant has run business for 20 years. This restaurant sells noodle which the price is not expensive and delicious.
